DRESSEL HAS HISTORICAL PERFORMANCE IN MVP WIN

Caeleb Dressel put together the best single-match performance we’ve seen so far in the inaugural International Swimming League season at the US derby, earning MVP honors for the second time.

Dressel, who competes for the Cali Condors, scored 57.5 points in his league debut back in October to win MVP in Naples, and then topped that with a stunning 61.5-point effort in College Park.

The 23-year-old superstar was a perfect 5-for-5 record individually, winning the men’s 50 and 100 freestyle, the 50 and 100 butterfly, along with the men’s skins event. The skins are a three-round 50 free eliminator that is worth triple points. In the final, going head-to-head with the LA Current’s Michael Chadwick, Dressel won by over a second by going his fastest time of three rounds – 21.25 seconds.

Not only did Dressel win, he was also going historically fast times. His victory in the 50 fly was a new American Record, while both his 50 free and 100 free were US Open Records (the fastest ever on American soil).

In addition to his individual victories, the American also swam crucial legs on the Condor relays, helping them win both the men’s and mixed 4×100 free, and take third in the men’s 4×100 medley.

Dressel is the first swimmer in ISL history to win MVP on multiple occasions, and his 61.5 points is the highest single-match total the league has seen so far.

Despite the standout performance, the Condors came up short in the match, falling to the LA Current by a mere 5.5 points. This loss was more important to Dressel than all of his individual accolades.

“I’d much rather get the team title than individual,” he said. “It is a competition, and it’s not an individual one. I’m a fierce competitor, but it’s the team title that we were going for, and we didn’t get that. So we’ve got to set a standard a little bit higher next time.”

For his efforts, Dressel earns an additional $5,000 from the match, awarded to each MVP.
